As the previous weather report said, but we had a hard time believing it would be true after the deadcalm at night, the wind picked up again in the morning. Around 9 o’clock, Joel woke me with the best news, the wind was ‘sail-able’ again! So with just the watch on deck, Joel, Alice, Rena and myself, we set the forestaysail, the big jib and the mizzen….. we thought we better wait for reinforcements before starting on the mainsail. And so when Tom came on deck we prepared the main and by the time we were setting it, all hands were on deck and the mainsail went up in 5 minutes. Engine off, and away we shot with 6,2 knots!

And we are still sailing! We had expected the wind to disappear again around 21 hours, but it never did! And so now we have 17 miles in a straight line to the equator and we are heading to it with 7 knots! The new weather report says we will keep our wind for some time, some 12 to 14 knots from 124 degrees, hopefully we can make a little more west with it soon. But when that North wind starts blowing, we will make West soon anyway!
Squalls and showers have been around all day. Hatches open, hatches closed, doors open, doors closed and those downstairs hoping the doors won’t be closed for too long, because the breeze in the ship feels so nice!

The heat is intense when the sun is out. The nights are between 31 and 29 degrees, with a light breeze to make it comfortable. During the day we all hide in the shade as sunscreen layers are not enough to keep from burning. If we can not have a swim stop during the day, I do believe that after Neptune has come to visit us, we will have to connect the fire hose again to keep cool (and have some fun).
Fingers crossed we can sail over the equator, that would be special enough! To do it with 7 knots would just be extreme!
All is well on board, Jet
