A Sunday Kind of Calm in the North Pacific

Another Sunday at sea! And what a Sunday it was. Sadly no wind, so no sailing yet—but the atmosphere, the so-called vibe on board, was definitely a Sunday kind of vibe.

Smooth Ladies of Jazz drifted from the speakers, Etta James sang that she wants a Sunday kind of love, and I found time to work on one of my unfinished knitting projects. Picture of the day goes to Matz catching me working on it.

The weather hasn’t been the kindest—dark grey clouds surrounding us, with rain in between even more grey. But it hasn’t dampened our spirits. We can’t change the weather, nor can we adjust our sails, as there is no wind at all. This windless zone stretches nearly 1300 miles wide. So, we wait. Patiently. Until the wind finds us again.

Michael lifted our spirits with homemade chai latte—warm, spicy, and smelling exactly like autumn. It warmed our hands and our hearts.

We had some incredible albatross sightings! The black-footed albatross came closest, though we weren’t quick enough with the camera. The Laysan albatross, however, did pose for a picture. They are such elegant creatures—we were all in awe of their effortless beauty.

Floris and I were convinced this was perfect whale weather—grey skies, calm seas—but alas, none showed themselves. Maybe tomorrow.

The Sunday roast was another success, especially with Michael’s starter: a ceviche made from our freshly caught tuna. Delicious!

The night is dark, with thick cloud cover, but the mood remains light. We know the moon is hiding somewhere behind those layers, and we even caught a brief glimpse of stars ahead. All we need to do is make our way there!

All is well on board,

Jet
