Another swim-stop

The wind has not been against us.. but it has also not been with us.. well actually most of the time, we have had no wind at all.. as predicted in our weather forecast. And so this afternoon, while it was 29 degrees outside, we decided that it was time for another swim stop, in water that is now 26,4 degrees on the surface. It was amazingly refreshing. Soete had her gargles on and was staring into the ocean for almost an hour. And Floris was teaching Jamijn how to do a backflip without it becoming a backflop. After much doubting and visualization, Jasmijn went for it, and the flip was a definite flip in one go! Perfect backflip from the mizzenmast pinrail! Luckily Soete’s phone was on deck and I was able to catch the moment Jasmijn did her third backflip together with Floris! Picture of the day right there.

Moritz used our swimstop for a relaxing float and Mark and I inspected the hull. Which since our last inspection two days ago still looks amazing.

We pulled the pilot ladder in around 15:25 and headed out again under engine. The breeze has slowly been filling in, but as we are going downwind, not much wind is felt on the deck. In about 6 hours we will pass Santo Antao on the ocean side, leaving the island to our portside, after that, we can head South and hopefully by that time, we can start sailing properly, with a more southerly course and more time for the wind to really come to a tradewind breeze. The clouds have been showing the traditional small cumulus formations, very much the fair weather look.

Our banana’s are of course all ripe at the same time, so we all about banana recipes again! Some we will freeze for later use, but right now we are enjoying banana cake (as desert with whip cream and caramel seasalt topping), banana pancakes for breakfast and banana porridge for 6 o clock watch hand over. No complaints so far!
BUT we are also very much in for new recipes if you have any?! Leave us a comment and it will be send to the ship!

Santo Antao is about 23 miles away, perfectly visible on the radar. In the dark we can see the lights and hopefully by sunrise we can see the high mountain ridges of the volcanic island. We will not stop, we have places to go and people to see! Just over 4500 miles on our course line and 39 days left to get there. For now we are happy, our vegetables are holding up well, the weather is fair and the heat is still easily manageable as downstairs we have a breeze from our wind catchers and vans.

All is well on board,
Jet
