Last night at 23:15 the silence was complete. A breaking wave in the distance and nothing more. No engine, no generator, no water passing by, no sails flogging, no wind rushing, no sound at all. Just a smell. A wonderfull, warm smell! Of island! Earth, flowers, sea shore and so much more was in the air. But the only thing we could see was a deep dark wall of stone in front, some lights on shore and a few lights of yachts.. but mainly darkness.. We had dropped anchor, we made it, with two days and a bit under engine, we found our resting place to wait out this big calm!

Dinner had been a little late, but we all ate outside. The sun was nearly setting and by the time we could have dessert (made by Alice, and it was amazing!) we were looking at an amazing sunset behind the island of Saint Helena. The sky was all the right colors, blue, purple, pink, orange, warm, dark and welcoming. One of those sunsets you will remember. Because if you would take a picture, it would not be enough. It would be missing the anticipation of arriving, the friends around and the natural beauty of the ocean. And as the sun disappeared, so did the crew. Send of to bed, because when we arrived we would have a celebration and then anchor watches.. so get the sleep you need, when you can, because an island awaits to be explored.

At 08:30 we hailed the harbor office on the VHF and they had received all of our papers, and welcomed us to Saint Helene. If we could take the ferry ashore at 09:00, we could get cleared in and then we were set to explore on our own. Friendly smiles all around as we landed on shore, good morning, beautiful day isn’t it, hello welcome to saint Helena it sounded by every person we met along the way to the office of customs and harbor dues. Its good to be here! We had a coffee in town and were all really taking in with the first impression. Its a tropical part of the United Kingdom, with different birds and amazing flowers. Our ferry goes every hour, so we had time for a cup of coffee to make a plan. And so far everything has been so welcoming about Saint Helena!

The crew is still ashore, exploring the town. Wifi and internet are the same as on the Falkland Islands, limited. Tomorrow we will set out to see the house Napoleon lived out his last years in exile, Joel, Alice and I are very excited to see this amazing part of history. Most of the crew is really looking forward to Thursday though, when they go snorkeling, hopefully with Whale Sharks! Don’t worry, they are plankton eating, amazing animals!
So on board all is well! Jet
