Brazilian welcomeBraziliaans welkom

Sitting on the aft of the Tecla enjoying (thoroughly enjoying) a beautiful lightshow of fireflies on the Island in front of us! Does it get any better than this?

Sorry for the silence the last few days. We are back in Brazil and this time we got an amazing reception! Thank you everybody in Itajaí for showing us what a Brazilian welcome can be like!

We entered Brazil in Florianapolis. We went at anchor near the yachtclub of Floripo and started a long and confusing process of clearing ourselves and the ship into Brazil. Many cab rides and 3 days later we were done and could not wait to get out of the city! Florianapolis is a very nice big city, the island it is situated on has amazing beaches, the people are very relaxed (must be part of the surf culture) and the weather was very nice as well. The day we left we set sail only to have to take it down again within the hour because big thunder clouds were forming al around and they gave us hell in a very narrow passage. We got the sails down and dropped the anchor to wait it out. And what a lightshow it was!

We set off again to arrive close to Itajai early in the morning. Somebody came out in the dinghy to lead us in to our berth, a berth at the event centre where the Volvo Ocean race had been, perfect! We went out for lunch with some important but amazing people, had fresh fish and king prawns. Then had a tour of one of the biggest fishing companies of the area and went back on board. Here the press was waiting for us. We did about 5 interviews, television, radio, newspaper, the whole shabam!  We were treated like royalty! That night we went for a BBQ on board one of the neighbouring boats and were taught the Brazilian way of BBQing and we liked it! Especially the Caipirinha!

This morning we bunkered and left Itajai to find a nice, quiet anchorage. And we did. We found a small island with lots of birds to anchor behind, Jorg and Gijs swam to the Island to check it out. But the growth on the island was so thick, they could not get into the bush! So they circeled the island over the rocks halfway and then came back. Now There are two fishing vessels here who are doing some night fishing, for what I do not know. The fireflies have gone to rest and so have the loud birds, all the sound that is left are the waves on the beach, quiet chatter from the fishermen and one very loud cricket.Sitting on the aft of the Tecla enjoying (thoroughly enjoying) a beautiful lightshow of fireflies on the Island in front of us!
