Day 17, wind and snow

Snow and wind
Heading into Bransfield Strait with a strong breeze on the aft. Only mizzen and forestaysail set, doing 8 to 9 knots average. Its snowing and grey, waves are building up, really what you would expect from the Southern Ocean. But our Tecla is keeping up her end of the deal and is dancing on the waves, dry deck, except for the melting snow. Our brave beauty does well under her small rig and steering is easy, although quite impressive, with the snow around your head and the waves rolling under neath you.

This morning we passed Elephant Island, a very impessive sight. We sailed passed endurance glacier and would have loved to stop here, but with these weather conditions, that was out of the question.
We are on our way to Greenwich Island, where we hope to arrive early in the morning. Here we will make a plan for the rest of the day, depending on wind and visibility.
