Today our picture of the day was won by Floris, it depicts the things that go on in the galley when our three amazing volunteers set out to do the dishes! They say it is what makes doing the dishes one of the best things.. apart from having crazy music on and just having fun with the three of them.. its also when they get a chance to snack straight out of the pot…! When ever I think there were a few potatoes left right…? or a vegetarian burger…? or vegetables…? But I can not seem to find them in the fridge the next afternoon.. well this is where they went. And its well deserved! In this picture they finished of our soup. Tomorrow it may be our left over spaghetti Bolognese.

For those trying to follow us on AIS, I guess we have gone off the map for a few days now. We have not seen any ships, we are hundreds of miles out of shore and the only people we have seen are the ones on board, not even a plane came by! We do have a yellowbrick tracker on our website for those interested. You can find it in our menu under Follow us. Or even through google you will find us when you type Yellowbrick Tecla Sailing. Good luck and have fun!
The track we are making this year is not too far from the one we had in 2022. We stopped in Brazil that year for parts. Last years track is very different from this year…! Around here we were heading into headwinds, fighting for every mile. While right now, miles come and fly by with our beautiful speed into the South.

The whole day we have been under sail, sometimes rocking very hard, most of the time, sailing very smoothly! This morning I think we hit a different part of the Falkland Island Current, possibly a side arm or eddy of the the current. Around 10 or 11 this morning we were rocking so much, waves from all sides, very boisterous one could say. And then all of a sudden it was calmer, speed was good and the color of the water changed to a deeper blue, bordering on green water. Same goes for this afternoon, we had an hour or so of rocking when the wind decreased and all of a sudden around 17h it got smooth, we were doing 9 knots and everything was calm. The water temperature has dropped as well, it is now 18 degrees.

With the changing color of the water, we have seen more and more birds, AND our first Albatross has been spotted. Not sure which one yet, but it looked a lot like black browed Albatross. We also have prions flying by in swift motions and Wilsons Storm petrels doing their dance on the water surface, touching it with their feet and turning and whirling all around like ballerinas.

AND today we spotted spouts of whales on the horizon! They were in the distance and to our leeward side, so we could not get to them, but there were at least 4 whales. These would be the first whales we have spotted on this voyage, which is not a lot. In previous years we had seen pilot whales, humpback whales and minke whales by now. So hopefully tomorrow will give us a better glance at the whales and which sort we have spotted!

All is well on board,
Jet
