English Channel Islands and the English South coast

Den Helder – Falmouth

Navigating through the English Channel with lots to see and do. Take part in sailing the ship, have a closer look at coastal navigation and use one of the dark nights to gaze at the stars. The well-deserved rest during the landfall opportunities will give you a chance to explore the beautiful English south coast and Channel islands. Go for a long walk with at the end a nice stop in one of the typical pubs, enjoy a glass of cider or one of the many ale’s. Back on board you can read your book on one of the quiet nights or play board game with your fellow travellers.

The Tecla will sail from Den Helder to Falmouth at the end of August. With 7 days to cover 450 NM, of course depending on the wind, there is enough time for some late summer stops on the South coast of England. The time of berries in the bushes and gardens full of flowers.

Setting sail from Den Helder you will pass through the narrows of Calais and see the shining white cliffs of Dover. One of the possibilities for a short stop will be the Isle of Wight. Throw anchor in the bay of Cowes, or moor alongside in Yarmouth. Next day will give you a beautiful sail through on the Solent, passing the Needles at the end of Wight. After that it might be possible to visit one or two Channel Islands, and then maybe a beautiful small town like Dartmouth on the river Dart.

The voyage will end in Falmouth. The Tecla will participate in the Tall Ships Regatta from Falmouth to Greenwich after this voyage. For those joining the Tecla during the regatta this trip is an excellent way to get to know the ship, the rigging and get the hang of manoeuvring her.

When you arrive in Falmouth, there will be a big festival with all sorts of Tall Ships gathering. The festival will have some shore side activities organised and you will be able to visit most of the participating Tall Ships. And of course you can go for a walk in the town of Falmouth, with the old buildings, the pubs on the water side and amazing long walks into the hills of Cornwall – Falmouth is a real Cornish delight.
