Frequently Asked Questions 

You can book a voyage directly on our website via the booking page. After you have read about our voyage description and made a choice to come sail with us, you can follow the link on the voyage page, to book now. You will be directed to our booking page, where you need to fill out your personal details and a medical form. Or you can send an email to our office requesting a reservation for a voyage, you can hold the reservation for 2 weeks. 

 You will be send an invoice and a contract after filling out our booking form. To confirm your booking, a deposit is required of 20%.

The next two payment dates will be 2 months before sailing and one month before sailing. You can choose to pay in full, cancellation terms are as followed: 

At cancellation your 20% downpayment will be lost. 

6 – 4 months before your departure 40% will be lost/owed

4 – 2 months before your departure 60% will be lost/owed

2 – 1 month before your departure 80% will be lost/owed

1 month to departure 100% will be lost/owed

 

Please make sure you have the right insurance for your cancellation. 

 

Transferring money

Payments can be made by bank transfer. Some banks charge per transaction. We also work with Wise. You can transfer money easily with Wise, without the big costs of some overseas banks. In the email you will receive with contract and invoice, you will receive more information on this payment method.

The Tecla’s current location can be found under the link, Follow the Tecla. This is a YellowBrick tracker, a satellite connection, that sends positions every 4 hours, from the deck of the Tecla. You can track the ship’s position and itinerary updates on our logbook page. Here we keep you updated with stories of the people on board. 

We recommend bringing warm, windproof clothing, multiple layers, and waterproof shoes for colder climates. For tropical destinations, light and breathable clothing is essential. A detailed packing list will be provided after booking.

Safety is our top priority. The Tecla is equipped with modern navigation systems and safety equipment such as life jackets and Arctic survival suits. The ship sails under Dutch flag, which means we have to comply with the regulations set under Dutch Law. Every year the Tecla undergoes her yearly survey, at least every two years the Tecla is lifted out of the water for painting and hull inspection. 

Yes, we can accommodate dietary allergies / vegetarian diet. Please let us know your requirements when booking so we can plan accordingly. There are some dietary restrictions we can not accommodate on board as we have only one galley and most of our voyage are in very remote areas. 

The Tecla offers cozy cabins with double bunkbed for 2 guests. Each cabin is designed for comfort and features ample storage for your belongings. The ship accommodates up to 12 guests, ensuring an intimate and personal experience. The common area can seat all during dinner times and has a cozy reading corner for a quiet moment. The extensive library offers a read for everybody.

Yes alcohol is allowed on board. On board there is a cash bar with beer, wine and soda’s. There is no strong alcohol sold on board. When sailing, alcohol is only permitted outside your watch. However, the captain reserves the right to limit or prohibit alcohol consumption if safety is at risk.

It is only allowed to bring alcohol on board as a gift to all on board. If you for example would like to bring a whiskey for a toast or bring a special drink from your hometown, everybody would love to hear the story behind it! 

Connectivity depends on the region. In remote areas, there is limited or no access to the internet or cell service. However, to ensure safety we have a satellite phone on board and an email system for our weather forecasts. 

The duration of our voyages varies from one-week journeys to extended expeditions of over 50 days. Check the itinerary of your chosen voyage for specific details.

The Northwest Passage is a legendary route through the Arctic waters of Canada. It is a challenging journey, navigating ice, tides, and extreme conditions, making it one of the most unique sailing expeditions in the world. In 2019 we traveled through the Northwest Passage for the first time, by this time we were the 311th ship to ever sail through the passage, in 2023 we were the 387th ship ever.
