Fog and ice

Ilulissat

After 10 days our adventure in the inshore passage of NW Greenland comes to an end. Our last trip over Dysko bay was mostly done in the dense fog. When I was slacking up our mooring lines in Aassiat earlier in the morning I could see the banks drifting in. By the time we got underway we could not make out the harbor contours… Willemijn stepped up and did a lecture on Navigation. The situation outside being rather foggy. I had great hopes of the grey blanked lifting as we neared the shore of Illulisat but I was gravely disappointed. Not before we had put our head in the bay did it lift. What a site! The big blocks of ice coming from the ice food just a mile away. The harbour being full we had to drop anchor in amongst the ice. No one complained. The best view of the town! It was for the better we did not seek a berth. We were al having a drink when the big supply vessel came in, not leaving any room for error! Of course they make use of the short season the bay can be navigated!

This morning we had our last breakfast of pancakes before every one scattered around town on their own voyage again. It has been a blast! Thank you all!

All is well

Gijs
