Grey rainy day

We must be getting closer to home, because this is the weather we know, said Joel during one of his watches.. and yes, so it seems. Grey skies, small world as a persistent drizzle (motregen) set in and stayed for hours. We had some relief during the afternoon, but then again in the evening. The wind has slowly decreased and so we are now under full sail, except the topsails. We have our big jib up, forestaysail and both main and mizzen unreeved. We are doing a good speed, not yet the right direction, but according to our weather report, that will soon change. We gybed a little early, so we would not make any South any more as the winds started to slowly turn.

We have just made it onto the continental shelve. Coming from a depth of over 4000 meters, the continental shelf comes up very steep to a little over 140 meters where we are right now. All of a sudden all kinds of life show up. A Gannet family with one juvenile, over 20 dolphins playing in front of the bow, in the bioluminescent water (a spectacular view) and many fishing vessels.  We have under 600 miles to go now, and everybody is feeling it.

Down stairs is nice and warm and cozy. During the day there are two movie clubs, depending on which watch you are in. Tucked away on the couch after a wet watch of 4 hours is so nice. Big socks on and cup of tea in hand, makes you forget the cold wet hours. The temperature during the day, at 16:00h, was 14,7 degrees, the water however was 14,3. It does not feel like spring just yet, more like autumn.

All is well on board, jet
