We have finally found the wind that was promised for over a day — though it only arrived after our Sunday gathering, drinks and chips, on the aft deck. Until then, the day was wrapped in light drizzle, grey skies and a feeling of stillness. Proper Sunday weather, even in the tropics. Lisa and Jasmijn disappeared into their bunks with books and a netflix serie, declaring the mood perfect for a little hideaway.
The morning had started with shifting clouds and barely a breeze, but by late afternoon the sails began to fill, and we’ve been moving steadily ever since. We are now running with a satisfying average of 32 nautical miles per 4-hour watch, under a generous breeze that is warm and steady. The water temperature has risen to 26°C, we sail comfortably in shorts, t-shirts, and the occasional waterproof jacket.
The ocean is alive with motion — not just ours, but that of dozens of flying fish launching themselves away from our bow, skimming the surface in startled silver flutters. Sadly, quite a few don’t make it and end up on deck, much to the delight or dismay of the early-morning clean-up crew.
It’s a good rhythm we’ve settled into now. The watches pass with easy conversation, soft playlists over the deck speakers, and eyes on the horizon. It’s not fierce, but it’s the kind of sailing that makes you breathe deeper and smile longer.
Today’s ‘picture of the day’ winner is Bob — just because sometimes, sailing is simply beautiful, and he was in exactly the right place to see it.
Here’s to clearer skies and more golden miles ahead.
All is well on board, Jet
