Today was our official halfway day! We have done more then half of our planned miles (we have sailed 3132 miles so far), but celebrating being halfway in miles is just not possible, what if we have to do extra tacks or change course to find wind or avoid wind, it makes for more miles in our route, but then our halfway party would not have been half way anymore! So we celebrated today. And we did it in style!

Daniel had caught a striped tuna of around 6 or 8 kilos in the beginning of the afternoon, so very quickly a plan of BBQ started to develop. We had already planned our virgin cocktails again, as they were such a success the first time around. So now we envisioned started at 18:00 when it was still light with a cocktail, watch the sunset together and set the BBQ ablaze so we would have a nice atmosphere with fire and fairy lights when it got dark! And that worked out splendidly! Although setting the BBQ on fire took a lot longer then expected with the wind extinguishing the matches and every small fire we could start.. But we succeeded (as we turned our course to a downwind course for a short while)!
The tuna was amazing. Daniel had cut steaks on the bone and they were baked on the BBQ very hot and short, so they had an amazing taste but were still red on the inside. Just perfect!! With potato salad, couscous, corn and a piece of pork tenderloin as extra, we were living like kings.. AND THEN, to top it all off, the baking team baked us an amazing cheese cake as desert!

Right now we are on a course South, with 2175 miles to go on the course line. We are getting closer to the latitude where the winds are more influenced by the low pressure areas to the south and the high pressure areas on the horse latitudes. Just about a day or so more on this portside tack and we may have to get used to a starboard tack, almost for the first time this voyage.. only 12 hours have we not been on this tack.. for 23 days! Our muscles will have to adjust, our muscles will have to grow straight again and our sleeping positions will have to change!
All is well on board,
Jet
