Happy New Year!

53’40.7S 061’17.5W course 235′ speed 6,2kn

Its a grey misty night. No wind, some waves, no traffic, no wild life and then all of a sudden there is Abba blasting through the speaker, the deck lights come on and our countdown is starting. As per Spanish tradition we have grapes (ok raisings, so dried ones..) in our hands and at 12 seconds to New Year we start eating the grapes and sound in the New Year with as much luck as we can! The champagne (ok maybe we could only find Cava on the Falkland islands) is uncorked and with hugs we sounded in 2025 with just our small crew on board!

Follow the Tecla: https://my.yb.tl/Tecla

We have just over 270 miles to go to Puerto Williams and are under engine as the wind is too light to sail with.
During the afternoon we started off doing 7,5 knots under sail.. but then our speed wend down to 4 knots and the waves were rocking us just a little too much. Also, on the 2nd of January we are likely to get some head winds, we would like to be South of Staten Island, before that happens, preferably even in the lee of Cape Horn and Isla Navarino. So, no time to go slow.

The weather has been very bleek. Grey and fog are taking turns. We did have a lot of Albatrosses around during the afternoon and the morning watch spotted Peals dolphins, and a floating Pineapple… Thoughts of sponge bob were quickly in all our minds.

Jasmijn made an amazing tiramisu as desert and so I think we will have it as night snack as well. Peanut butter sandwich or tiramisu… that peanut butter isn’t going anywhere!!

All is well on board
