Just another Sunday

Our third Sunday at sea. And we all agree, where did the time go?! The last week has gone by so fast!
Today was spend sunbathing, shadebathing, reading books and I even got some knitting done, like on a real Sunday afternoon. Riva and Myrthe found a perfect spot on deck to watch a movie, which was later occupied by Karsten and Tim. It must have been a really good spot!

Early in the morning as the sun was coming up, we were able to distinguish what bird had perched itself in our port light. No Sooty tern at all, but a Noddy, a black or brown Noddy, hard to distinguish which one in the dark.. Its long bill gave it away as the light around us got a little brighter. But as soon as the morning announced itself, the Noddy stuck out its wings high in the sky, like it was stretching and then, off it went! We did not see it again all day long. But then… Just now, we saw another Noddy, or possibly the same…, try and find a spot on board. It perched on the light again, but then disappeared a few minutes later. Maybe it found a spot where there are not constantly people walking past and talking.

We have also started a game.. A game where we have a word and the name of a person on board and we have to make this person say the word to be able to win. After they have said the word, you then take over the word and the name of the person you have just won from, until you are the last one standing.. I am already dead, Pedro got the best of me.

Other then that… All is well on board, Jet

Hi Jet, just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate your logging in every day and sharing what’s happening on board. My son Bob is sailing with you and since he is incommunicado your posts allow me to learn what it means to cross the ocean in a sail boat. It seems as if you are all having a great time. I also enjoyed reading about dolphins that are swimming alongside and birds that are happy to find a place to rest in the middle of the ocean. All in all a fantastic adventure! Thanks for doing this and behouden vaart!

    BLACK WIDOW
    BLACK NODDY
    Years Minutes
Where to find it: Praia do Sancho
This is the most abundant seabird in the archipelago.
Its population has already been estimated at 21 thousand birds and 10 thousand nests in Noronha alone. In Brazil, the island is its main breeding site and, during mating season, couples perform a ritual of head movements and exchanging fish. Lay only one egg per year.
Build your nests using a variety of different materials, such as seaweed and feces. Unlike the brown widowbird, it only nests in trees.
Share the branches of mulungu trees with other species that also use this tree to build their nests.
    BROWN WIDOW
    BROWN NODDY
    Anosous stolith
Where to find it: Praia do Boldró
Less abundant on the island than the black widowbird. Its largest population is located in Atoll das Rocas, where 17 thousand individuals have already been recorded.
Their nests are very simple, made on rocks, where they only lay one egg. They breed mainly on secondary islands. They can be seen fishing above the water, feeding on small.
    WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCES?
    BLACK WIDOW/BLACK NODDY
    35 to 40 cm (smallest)/More intense white/Black plumage dark/Nests in trees
    BROWN WIDOW/BROWN NODDY
    Less intense white/Brown plumage
    40 to 45 cm (largest)/Nests in rocks
