Making east before meeting Neptune

  00’25.0N 027’53.4W course 220′ speed 5,3kn

Without our doldrums, with an East South East wind turning South East since the 7th degree Latitude, we started to run out of room on our course line South as we were making too much West. So during the past 24 hours, we first tried to make South under engine and sail… and then tacked to make East, so tonight we can sail South West by South. So far our tactics have worked… but we will see in about 340 miles whether this was enough!

Our weather report is still giving Easterly winds for this area, a bit more to the South is where, in the weather report, the wind comes from 130′, which is what we have here or even a little more southerly. Augh let’s not get technical, the sailing is good and that’s what it is all about. The crew is getting a little more nervous about meeting Neptune, every day some question or remark is made to the appearance of the ruler of the realm of sea creatures and waves. Possibly we will get a visit during the afternoon, if we can keep this speed up. I have not yet had a reply to my email I send, to announce our new recruits. Let’s see what happens.

While we were under engine heading into the wind, we were able to get some small jobs done. Magnus captured Daniel working in the rigging, getting a fairlead back in place, and won the picture of the day. Today was a sunny blue-sky day, as you can see in the picture, and this night we even feel a little cool as the skies are clear and stars shine brightly. No showers to be seen on the radar and no lightning on the horizon, this feels pretty good!

We have used our last papas arrugadas and pedron peppers, our traditional Canary Island dishes are done for now. But other than that, Soete is keeping a very close eye on all our vegies, and it is paying off! Our peppers are doing well, tomatoes go into the fridge before they get too soft, and our last cucumber was served in a big salad last night. I have been playing with the thought of making paella, although I have never done that in my life, so we got a recipe via our links with home and maybe we will try that out next. Although we have no saffron on board… maybe Kurkuma can replace it…?

All is well on board, Jet
