What started as a normal Sunday, turned into a beautiful Christmas eve. Although the weather has been changing the last few days, with colder nights and a wet deck due to drizzle, during the day, we are still very much in sunshine territory. So the real Christmas feeling is hard to get for those from the Northern Hemisphere! To help get the Christmas feeling, just a little bit, I started decorating the salon last night. We have a tiny Christmas tree, lots of fairy lights and some extra decoration, just for the feeling. And it seems to be helping.
Today most of us finished our Secret Santa presents, small gifts, without being able to buy anything.. So a poem, an art piece and maybe even a ‘roast’ (Riva and Myrthe were really hoping for one of these…). Our Christmas morning will start at 12 board time, with a brunch lunch and then gift exchange, possibly followed by a movie on the beamer! Real Christmas.
For sailing, we will most likely not have to go outside.. There is little wind predicted and with a depression heading our way, we want to get South as much as possible before the morning of the 26th. So with one person on the helm and lookout, we are set for a nice Christmas afternoon, like we had our dinner last night. We had a pork roast (or pumpkin for those who dont eat meat) with brussel sprouts, coleslaw and baked potatoes. Karen provided our dessert, as she brought Mince Pies for everybody! They were extremely nice!
We have also spotted our first Albatross, most likely a Yellow Nose Albatross. We were all very excited, a good omen for our holiday spirits.
All is well on board, Jet

STER
De boot is mijn bed
Water mijn kussen
De maan is mijn lamp
De avond ertussen
Waar gaan we naartoe?
Is een zinlozee vraag
Voor eventjes leeg
Voor altijd vandaag
Dus kies ik een ster
Mijn scheepsmaatje lacht
Wat is het toch mooi
Een boot in de nacht
Liefs allen, van ons!
