This morning we spotted a pod of pilot whales. They were not as interested as the last pod we encountered, who came over to swim with us, but we could see them for over 20 minutes. In the pod were also two small ones, happy and fierce moving along side a parent and keeping up with their pace.
At the end of the morning, early afternoon we were able to sail for about an hour or two. A strong North Westerly wind came up and so we set sail, full sail with big jib and all, to make some miles.. and then a shower moved in, against the wind that we were sailing with and the wind backed 60 degrees and then died out.. so we tacked, tried sailing on the other side, but went North West again (…) which we did not want to do any more, and as the wind turned very light, we turned on the engine and took away sail. Well it kept us busy between 11:00 and 16:00h!!
And now we are keeping busy with lots of tales and questions. What was the happiest day of 2023? Why do we drink cow milk? What makes truffles so special? And some Andy jokes. Tomorrow we will do a pinrail run and some celestial navigation if the weather is fair. We have not really had time to get into any of the details of celestial navigation as we always seem to be busy around culmination! It’s either time to set sail, take away sail or time to have lunch!

We are still making our way against a current. This morning with oil checks etc we were drifting for a little bit and then we could really see the strength of the current, we were going East with 1,6 knots!
Days and nights are still fairly warm, when the sun is out, its easily 20 degrees. And during the night it is still in the mid to high 10’s. Although coming out of the tropics, we sometimes think 20 degrees is very cold.. Today I spotted some bare foot or socked feet on the deck, as it was such a nice afternoon.
The moon is already halfway gone again, so tonight at the start of our watch we had a big bright Milky way! The moon will rise in another half hour or so to give us a little bit of light on the deck, as it is quite dark!
All is well! Jet
