Showers and sunshine

Although it seems our day has mostly been ruled by showers, we have also had some bright sunshiny hours! Steel blue skies and deep blue ocean water, with a few white caps due to the wind. The waves have been very irregular, some short, some longer, mostly annoying. The showers sometimes bring an increase in wind with them and then behind the showers there is no wind. It seems this is what causes the shorter waves. They get pushed up by the wind, but then the wind dies again and the steep wave remains.

Pedro is on the helm right now, steering 190′. He was also on the helm the first half hour of the watch, when we were still surrounded by showers. He got a bit of a work out with the changing courses as the wind increased, decreased, turned and disappeared completely and would then return within 5 minutes. He went from 175′ to 220′ and back again to 190′.

Other then that it has been a quiet day. Myrthe made naan breads for dinner which were very nice in combination with a big curry and pilaf.
A greater sheerwater has been circling the ship, a lonely bird and one of the few we have seen in the past few days. And last night we had the first slithers of the new moon visible. Josu made a beautiful picture of it which won the picture of the day competition. Tonight there should be shooting stars due to a meteorite shower, but clouds are covering the skies and we have only seen a few faint shooting stars so far. Maybe it will clear up soon..

All well on board, Jet
