What a place to take a dive! only 180 miles from the equator, 3650 miles from the Falklands and 1800 miles from Tenerife, we took a dive.
During the night we were able to sail beautifully, slow but steady. After sunrise we lost the wind a little, but then at noon it was completely gone. Taking away the sails in the burning sun, we all got a little over heated. It felt like 40 degrees, although the thermometer was still on 33 degrees… Really, the only thing we could do, was take dive into the ocean (which is about 28 degrees) to cool down. And it was so refreshing. After the swim most of us felt like the air temperature was not so bad, we stayed in the shade of our make shift sun tent, but then it was fine. Yet another beautiful day.

The engine got us through the next few miles. Making South with 6 knots while big cumulus clouds were gathering around us. We had dinner outside while watching the sun set. It was very beautiful! Such bright colours!
And then, at midnight, the wind had returned! We set sail in 30 minutes, from zero to full sail and now we are on a close reach with a light breeze that feels amazing. Steering is easy, just like the midnight conversation. The temperature is nice, even a little cooling.
We still have the old set of sails up, although it feels like this might be the beginning of the tradewinds of the Southern Atlantic Ocean. In the next few days we will get our new set of sails ready, new mizzen, new mainsail, new forestaysail. Really looking forward to getting the new canvas up and seeing how the Tecla responds to them!
All is well, jet
