Today was the day for our new mainsail to go up! It took us some hours as we had to adjusting to do, but we got there in the end. Also the wind had dropped during the morning, but came back around some showers, which seemed a lot for our new mainsail to be up in. So just before dinner, we were done and the wind was calm enough so up she went! What a beauty!
It was also the day that our game had to end. Karsten won my making Andrew say earring. He was quite creative about it.. asking who made the song Radar Love.. Now you have the song in your head, just like all of us on board.
We were making good progress during the night, we even got up to 8,5 knots! Our new mainsail really wants to work! But with that much wind we had to decide to take the new sail down, as we are not willing to reef her yet. Wind is a force 4 coming in on a close reach, so apparent wind got up pretty fast. The new sail still has to stretch into her form, which we want to do with a stable breeze. And we are still doing 5 knots without the mainsail, so for now she will stay down.
Other then that… it has been a beautiful day! The sun is fierce, the wind cools you down somewhat, but while we were working one can get hot fairly fast! The ocean is extremely blue! We had some showers around, but only got 3 drops (riva counted them). We are actually looking forward to some rain, as the everything is very salty due to the spray. With the mainsail down, maybe tonight is a good moment. That way, if there is some extra wind in the showers, we can handle it without any worries for the new mainsail.
All well on board, Jet
