Voyage Description: From Patagonia to the Equator
From the rugged fjords of southern Chile to the enchanted waters of the Galápagos, this voyage is a rare opportunity to experience the open Pacific, visit off-the-chart islands, and sail in the spirit of the great explorers. It’s a bold crossing through wind, wave, and wonder.
We depart from Puerto Montt, nestled at the northern edge of Chilean Patagonia, and quickly leave the coastline behind. Our bow points northwest to the Juan Fernández Archipelago, a place of myth and maritime legend. The main island, Robinson Crusoe Island, is home to a small fishing community and dramatic green hills that once sheltered a castaway who inspired Defoe’s novel. With luck, we anchor in San Juan Bautista, stretch our legs on coastal trails, and soak up the atmosphere of this secluded volcanic gem, spot the endemic hummingbird and possibly explore a little further on horseback.
Then comes the heart of this voyage: an extended ocean passage. We ride the Humbolt current North, watch for whales, and share the rhythm of life at sea—stars above, dolphins below, wind in the rigging. Watch systems and shared meals bring the crew together in timeless routine.
Before reaching the Galápagos, we make a stop on the Ecuadorian coast for an important task: a hull cleaning, as required by Galápagos National Park regulations. This ensures we arrive in these protected waters without introducing invasive species—an essential part of our commitment to low-impact sailing.
Finally, we reach the iconic Galápagos Islands, where strange creatures and ancient lava flows tell stories older than time. Due to strict environmental rules, we are permitted to land on one island only—but that doesn’t limit your experience. From our anchorage, you’ll swim with turtles, snorkel among sea lions, and wake to the sound of frigatebirds overhead. If you’d like to explore further, local operators offer island day trips.
This is not a cruise. This is a voyage. A bold crossing into nature, solitude, and surprise. From the Beagle’s shadow to Darwin’s legacy, your journey awaits.
