Highlights of this voyage

Set sail between Ullapool and Tenerife

Setting sail from Harlingen for Tenerife in autumn is always an exciting challenge. The weather in the Wadden Sea and the North Seacan be unpredictable, with low-pressure systems rolling in and temperatures gradually dropping. But as you make your way south, passing through the English Channel, you’ll soon swap your warm sailing gear for shorts as you moor in Tenerife.

This voyage is perfect for mile collectors: with essential shipkeeping tasks such as steering and watchkeeping (both day and night), you will log some serious time and miles! Along the way, enjoy the occasional group of dolphins playing at the bow and maybe even catch sight of a whale.

During your watches, you’ll get into the ship’s rhythm—rocking and rolling down the North Sea, navigating through the English Channel, and leaving the Bay of Biscay well to your portside as you head for the Portuguese North wind.

If the winds are not favorable for a direct departure, the Wadden Islands provide excellent shelter to wait for a weather window before heading south. Once past France and Spain, your course will be nearly due south all the way down the Atlantic.

If conditions allow, time may be gained to explore the Madeira archipelago. Porto Santo, an island to the east of Madeira, is a peaceful retreat and a perfect stop before the final leg to the Canary Islands. Stepping ashore after several days at sea will feel exhilarating! Don’t forget to taste the famous Madeira wine before setting sail again.

If all goes to plan, you will arrive in the Canary Islands a day before disembarkation. Santa Cruz de Tenerife is a bustling port city with a lively atmosphere, offering plenty of bars and restaurants where you can enjoy the best seafood, Papas Arrugadas, and local Canary Island wines.

This voyage is a true offshore adventure!
