Tsunami Update – All is Well on Board

We would like to thank everyone for their kind messages and concern. Please rest assured: we are safe and well southwest of the tsunami warning area currently in effect for parts of Alaska.

On the official website of the U.S. Tsunami Warning Center (https://tsunami.gov), you can find an updated map showing the affected areas.

The Tecla is currently at 50°22.3’N 170°29.5’W, which places us roughly 300 nautical miles away from the warning zone. We are monitoring all developments closely through our satellite connection (Iridium), and will continue to do so.

The ocean around us is currently 4,200 to 5,000 meters deep, with over 140 nautical miles of deep water before we would reach any shallower areas. This provides an added layer of safety at sea.

Our plan remains to continue sailing downwind in a strong southerly breeze, and then head northeast once the wind shifts behind the passing low-pressure system.

Stay safe! All is well on board, Jet
