We are speeding along nicely.

Wind is not very consistent in direction or strength, which makes me believe we are nearly at the end of the 20 kn of trade winds and are heading into to the lighter becoming winds, closer to the equator. We still have some West to make, so possibly a gybe at next watch handover.

The heat on board is getting intense. We all have our van’s on and all blankets have disappeared. The nights are about 29 degrees, but the wind makes it very comfortable during the dark hours. And the dark hours are not that dark.. Yesterday was a full moon and so today we are missing a small piece, but we are still enjoying the spotlight feeling! We were even wondering (although we know the answer) if the moon would reflect heat, because it is still very hot without that yellow flaming ball.

What we did not know the answer to, and so had to ask our help line, Jannette, was if you could freeze eggs! And apparently you can, if you whisk them first, or at least not leave the shell on! And so during the last two watches we spend our time filling a total of 48 bags, each with 3 eggs, so we can eat cake, scrambled eggs and omelets during the rest off the voyage.. instead of having to finish them all within this next week! Alice has more plans for cakes, so we would not want to waste these precious commodities too quickly!

Ice coffee has become the next best thing. Yesterday was our first try, instead of a 5 euro drink in Westerpark in Amsterdam, we thought it was nice, but possibly only worth 2 euro’s. But today was a completely different story! It was worth the full 5 euro’s! Nice refreshing, not too sweet and still strong in taste! Our last watermelon is in the fridge now. But our apples, oranges and grapefruits are still doing very well! We are very happy with our groceries.. one strange thing though, is that we got vegan Mayonaise and vegan cream to make whipped cream out off! We did not order this, we ordered regular.. Very strange, and we only noticed almost a week into the voyage, so it cant be too bad!

We have passed the latitude of Ascension island without spotting it, there were way too many miles in between. We did however spot flogs of birds, diving for food. It was a mixed group with Booby’s and possibly Atlantic Petrels. We did not see what they were diving for, hoping to see some whales or dolphins, but none appeared. The dead reckoning for our celestial navigation had to be done over.. So everybody is on their toes today to make sure we know where we are at noon!

Our crossword puzzle was, again, a big success.

All is well on board, jet
