Yes! The first Frigate bird!

Our first Frigate bird has been spotted. Only one and only for 10 minutes, but it was there! So every day we come a little closer to the Equator and the South Atlantic Ocean. Every day a new bird or a new weather sort… This evening we made it to the showers with thunder and lightning. The first drops fell a few minutes ago. And luckily the lightning is still some miles off. But we are certainly closing in on the doldrums and their typical weather.

Our course has a little east in it, as we are trying to keep the sails full. The showers seem to ‘eat’ the wind a little and the waves keep rolling us around, so to keep us going we keep changing course to find the best one.
On the green radar screen in front of me, there is more and more green/yellow appearing. Every sweep shows the big showers pouring down in front of us. But hey, what rain may fall now, will not fall later… right…

The temperature during the day got up to 33 degrees in the shade. We tried staying in the shade while a first introduction to celestial navigation was given. It was a nice first introduction, with lots of questions and lots of interaction. Tomorrow we will try and gather on the deck for a first sighting of the meridian passage.

Other then that, the atmosphere on board is good. Although we have gone through most of our jokes, movie quotes seem to be the next thing. Or even book quotes. Both seem to divide the generations on board a little, you either get it.. or your the wrong generation.. This goes two ways by the way, which results in hilarious situations. Like “sing a longs” on songs of Frozen. And I think Frozen may actually be a favorite to watch right now, just to cool down a little.

All is well, Jet

Good morning to everyone at Tecla, may it be a beautiful day. They are already at the latitude where Brazil (Oiapoque/AM/BR) begins on the coast, still in the North Atlantic, and the Blue Amazon ends in Chuí/RS/BR in the extreme south of the country! I’m following Tecla and all of you 24 hours a day via Marine Traffic and your diary! I’m traveling with you, supporting you! Seeing the lack of wind you had and the rain that came and discovering Brazil and the world all the time and learning! It’s doing me good, thank you!
Luiza (72 years old) I love the sea!!!
